A team from The Manuplas Group in Plymouth are bursting with energy and passion after committing to raise funds for this year’s Sport Relief and the local charity of St Luke’s Hospice.

Trainers will be at the ready on Friday 23rd March when staff from the Plymouth based factory walk or run a mile around the Estover Industrial Estate. The company Marketing Director Claire Mollet who has organised the event said “We are very excited about taking part.  It is a great opportunity for our staff to get active and raise money to help change the lives of vulnerable people in Plymouth, across the UK and the worlds poorest countries.  We are going to match the amount raised by our staff to encourage as much participation as possible”.

Manuplas will set their mark at the 2012 Olympics!  The Plymouth manufacturer is collaborating with London based artist Keith Wilson to produce 35 ‘steles’ which will be scattered along the waterway outside the Olympics Aquatics Centre.

The vibrant artworks due to be delivered to the site this month will help to incorporate arts and culture initiatives into the Olympic Park and will be admired by all who visit this world-class destination.

Manuplas is a family run business with over 25 years of experience and a global reputation in manufacturing marine equipment as well as being a specialist in processing polyurethane elastomers.  The company is no stranger to undertaking such important commissions and has recently worked with an artist on an installation for the British Art Show Exhibition.

Manuplas has been able to demonstrate artistry and imagination to the games with the red, orange, brown, green and blue artworks that are instigated by a type of marker stone.  The South West based firm’s pioneered polyurethane elastomer coating has enabled it to clinch the collaboration with Mr Wilson on this very prestigious commission.  The steles will be made from foam cylinders and coated in the unique plastic coating.

“Keith loves our material and the effects we can get from spraying them; a kind of orange peel texture,” said Ms Mollet.  “Together with the richness of the colours we can achieve, it can bring a design to life.  Our ability to do what we do is unique and we can spray any shape of any size.”

It is anticipated that the steles which are commissioned by the Olympics Delivery Authority will be a lasting legacy of the games at the London site, past 2012.
